Creative Edge Center for the Arts

Our partners for this year’s Spring Exhibition have been the folks at The Creative Edge Center for the Arts. They have been wonderful in allowing us to take over space to display the talents of our members. It was great to see the space used for music, dance and theatre also filled with visual arts too. Drawing, paintings, fabric art, sculpture, photographs, and more are displayed on the walls and a few display racks in this space.

During the last two days of our exhibit the Creative Edge Center for the Arts will be hosting their “Performance Show Case”.

The EDGE Showcase

So come and enjoy the art, but at the same time support all of the arts and see some wonderful local talent.

Make Art Monday

Best-Coloring-Pencils

On Monday, May 15th, join us at St. Peter’s Fellowship hall 211 S. Main St. for an evening of fun and learning. Colored pencils have evolved as more than just a coloring book tool. Come and see what you can do with colored pencils. The evening starts at 7:00 pm and runs to 9:00 pm.

Field Trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

On Sunday May 7th a group of us are getting together to go down to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Why, you may ask? Well for one it is “Pay what you Wish day”, instead of paying regular admission, you get to pay what you wish for general admission, it does

PMA trip

not include any special exhibits that are currently running.  Second, you would be going with a group of fellow artists and those that love art. Third it is educational and fun.

To get in on this, we are meeting at the museum around 11 in the morning, (the Museum opens at 10 on Sundays). If you plan to have lunch there, there are several choices. The Museum Café offers fresh-baked goods, hot and cold beverages, soups, salads, sandwiches, and snacks, along with a build-your-own-burrito bar and a selection of local beers and wine. Or the Art Café which offers a rotating selection of salads, sandwiches, and sweets.

Then you have the exhibits, anything from Modern and Contemporary Art to European Art from the 1500’s.

Currently there is a special exhibition(which has a separate admission fee)  on American Watercolor in the Age of Homer and Sargent. This exhibit ends May 14th.

Learn about Marcel Duchamp and the Fountain Scandal.

Or go the Pearlman building for Phulkari: The Embroidered Textiles of Punjab from the Jill and Sheldon Bonovitz Collection.

All we ask is that you contact the office at info@northpennarts.org and use the Subject “PMA Field Trip” to let us know that you are going.

Thank you.

Why do people take art classes?

Art classes provide several things and most people don’t realize it. Besides learning how to look and observe, you also learn how to make a 3D object look 3D on a 2 dimensional plane. But besides learning to draw, paint, sketch, mold, form, or sculpt. You also learn to use your creative side, studies have shown that people of other trades that create art outside of their normal 9-5 job, solve problems faster, are more engaging, and can see solutions from another angle.

Art classes allow you to meet and create with others also interested in art and learning the ability to create. Art classes also allow us to bring the inner child out. Remember when you were a kid and mom would let you draw with crayons, color or best yet finger-paint, well you can do this in an art class.

We have several to choose from.

Mondays we have a Adult Multi Media class that runs for 10 weeks and starts at 7 p.m. If you are not sure what medium you are interested in? This class is for you. Working in different mediums, which may include pen and ink, printmaking, watercolor, collage, fabric arts and sculpture, you will create original works of art.

On Tuesday evenings we offer two classes. The first is Watercolor and here you will learn color theory and composition basics.
